Our Department has the following laboratories. In these we have professional laboratory equipment suitable for a variety of measurements, researches. For the application the staff of the Department has a high level of theoretical and practical knowledge.

 

Flight Simulation Laboratory

The laboratory has two simulators. A certified multi module FNPTII simulator for pilot training, workload measurement and psychological testing. The other simulator was developed at the department and can be used for light model, aircraft systems, control laws, human machine interface development and testing. And also suitable for support the development of pilot workload measurement systems.

Static Load and Fatigue Testing Laboratory

The testing frame has 3 x 5 m overall size and suitable for corresponding sized wings or other parts. Measurements are performed using direct physical contacts, digital sensors and remote sensing. Suitable for testing of wings, larger UAVs, fan blades, helicopter rotor blades.

Mini Towing Tank

Size of laboratory: Length: 23m, Breadth: 2m, Height: 3m, Area: 52 m2. Size of tank:Length: 20,6m, Breadth: 0,9m, Height: 0,8m, Max. water depth: 0,65m. Measuring system: A carriage runs over the tank in its full length. The carriage tow a ship model through force gauges. Beside the adjustable speed of carriage, the longitudinal and transversal towing forces are measured and recorded. From these data the total resistance curve of model is calculated. Ship model size depends on its Froude number, but for common ships the max. model size: LxB: 1~1.2m x 0.15~0.2m. Max. towing velocity: 3 m/s

Gas Turbine Laboratory

Gázturbina

Three different gas turbine test benches serve various research and educational purposes:

  • Deutz T216 turboshaft engine with hydraulic brake system - modeling of turboprop engines
  • TKT-1 turbojet engine offers investigation of problems related to jet propulsion
  • SPT10 micro turboshaft engine used as the core of a complete hybrid (turbo-electric) aircraft propulsion system

Air Traffic Management Laboratory

The ATM laboratory have solutions for educational and research purposes related to Air Traffic Management. There is an operational ATCO work environment system with two controller and one supervisor/pseudo pilot workstation. There are available different department developed software and the ESCAPE Light software provided by EUROCONTROL. The laboratory has a Remote Tower research workstation with proper display system and motion capture technology. All workstation can be equipped with different workload and biometry measurement systems.

Technical Modelling and Simulation Laboratory

Significant amount of cost, time and capacity can be saved not only in the R&D sector of the vehicle industry but in the all lifetime cycle of the products in the all relevant areas of the economy. Hence, the following software and hardware configurations have been purchased and introduced in the study program of the Department of Aeronautics and Naval Architecture for technical modelling and simulations:

  • 14 seat ANSYS HPC licences
  • 1 seat access for ANSYS Multiphysics Associate license (for industrial applications)
